Ok, if you have ever worked in a restaurant (or been in a restaurant and wondered, even a little bit, about the workers who make their living bringing you the things that fuel your very survival) Sweetbitter by Stephanie Danler is for you. I spent most of my early twenties in a restaurant learning lessons that I don’t think I could have learned anywhere else. I have respect for people that work in restaurants. It’s a rite of passage. And that is what Sweetbitter is all about. This is a young person’s story but a book everyone can relate to. It’s coming of age mixed with a downward spiral you can see coming from a mile away but still savor like that second (or third) glass of red wine at dinner.
Best Drink Pairing: Expensive Cabernet, because it’s the quintessential restaurant drink to show you know your stuff and you've earned your stripes.
